Walking the Essex way

Its been a wile that I've visited my blog. Have been a little busy doing other things< but still walking and taking photographs...
But not today its raining quite heavy the wind  strong to. Yesterday My friend Paula and I walked to the gravel works, being bank holiday Monday we were able to walk to the men made lake, due to the extraction of gravel the lake was the end result.

We walked right by its edge, the waters so clear, a lot of plants is taking hold  beautiful to see so many different types of wild flowers and the geese and swans, its just like an oasis in the desert...

Walking the Essex way

Friday ready for another walk, but it was not going to happen the heavens opened up with a heavy downpour so we decided to leave it for Monday that's a shame was looking forward to the walk I always feel so energised after a good walk.

Early in the week we took the path of the old airfield, Paula and I have really good memories of walking through fields full of wild flowers and apple trees full of apples going to waste, of course we took some home, we love foraging picking from the hedge and then spending hours in the kitchen cooking, the apples for Crumbles. Blackberries, Damsons, elderberries, plumes for lovely jams.

And then everything changes the old airfield become out of bounds because of extraction of gravel, obliterating the fields full of wild flowers and the apple trees were also destroyed,
We still can walk part of the way but it looks so desolated, forlorn.... We carried on to the main road and ended up at the Rivenhall place. all the way we were guided by fields of rape their strong scent filling the air.

Walking the Essex way

I feel so lucky and privileged  to be able to walk through the Essex pathways, through the woods with the sweet music of a hundred tiny voices reaching a crescendo, playing as we go along at least that's what it feels like with the chorus of hundred voices...

Early this week my friend and I walked to what we call our Jurassic woods, right next to it there is this lake where a carpet of mint fills our nostrils, as we walk along all you can smell is mint in a few weeks time its going to look so different, the mint will have grown a lot taller and the insects buzzing, one needs to be there to smell the scented air its intoxicating.

Of course Paula and I don't just take photos of the lake! We have to go investigate, we go into the woods and what a sight awaited us it looked like a forgotten world, where no man had been there for centuries....we walked in sometimes we had to practically crawl in the undergrowth, if anyone was looking they would've thought we were mad perhaps we are (((LOL)))

We see trees in the edge of the lake laying down as if having a rest with its roots exposed, and again the sweet smell of mint as we walk along the edge of the lake with the sound of the birds it feels so magical!!!! Oh my!!!!  I just remembered  there was this time when we found a handbag and a wallet with all the cards in it, when we looked at it the cards were still in date...

So you would never believe it, Paula has to call the police and tell them all about it! So they say for us to bring it into the station if we were that worried,,,Hahahah it was so funny walking along the country lanes with this red handbag covered in mud it must've been in the lake and when the water receded it was left in the bank.....  The scraps that she gets me into! Sometimes we walk through nettles and brambles hence the strong hiking boots anything less would not do, and when I say you not thinking of going through there are you? She say's just look on it as an adventure.....

Walking the Essex way

It has been a few day's since my last walk...I have not done any walking for the past week due to a bad cold. Hopefully the walking will resume on Monday. really looking forward to it....
As am seating here writing, am thinking that I might go for a short walk to the park..... on Friday when Jennifer and I took Jaylee to the park the cherry trees looked amazing, since I have been awake since four A.M a walk might do me good and of course take some pics of the cherry blossom.

Yes that's what I'll do! and I might even walk as far as the lake.....

Walking the Essex way

Walking is something that I love to do and the countryside is right by our doorstep. My friend and I walk most day's. Last week we only managed one day, Paula and Her Husband went to Witby for the goth festival...... Hubby and I also visited our friends Fiona and Gino in Lowestoft, The first two day's it rained and on the day that we were coming back we had lovely sunshine.

Fiona takes me on a walk to the old high street in Lowestoft, lovely to walk and see the old road....we walk through the Park where bluebells were in profusion, with the sunshine filtering through the trees it looked magical, we walked on to the sea front where the camping site stood, its name quite apt the (((most easterly campsite))) very cold and very windy, so I pass on the walk along the seawall, by then I was shivering.

We walk back through the park and on to the Navy memorial gardens.... Again a beautiful garden and a beautiful thatched cottage in the grounds, there was this beautiful bridge too, that was presented during Queen Victoria reign...
In all a great last day, what a difference it makes when the sun is shining. In the afternoon we came home laden with a few goodies the girls entrusted to bring Portuguese cakes at the Madeira cafe where we had ((pregos)) steak sandwich Madeira style in (((bolo do caco))) its a flat bread very traditional in Madeira...Thank you Fiona and Gino for having us and making us feel so welcomed....
