After Christmas at Essex way

Feeling restless!
Been awake since 3 got up at 4 tried to switch my laptop but it just keeps twirling and does not want to come on lol.
Christmas has passed and now we are going towards the new year. 2019 was quite eventful!
After living in our home for 30years Hubby decides that we are going to have an extension to our house, to start with I was all for it and after 2 years of stress I was ready to throw in the towel but Hubby was determined and he would not give up.
We found a builder (((Dagan Mansworth)))that we could trust, lucky for us he dealt with the council and quickly things started moving! It was good that he lived in our street, he himself was having an extension to his house.
So we knew that we could rely on him. Now we have a more spacious downstairs with an added downstairs toilet shower room. The garden does look a little different too!
The pergola has gone, but Hubby did put the lin-to back up with a decking, he worked non stop bless him! And we were ready for Christmas.
Looking forward to summer so that we can enjoy our new garden.
Happy 2020 to you all.

A Christmas memory.

All that work! And its all over! Christmas Is always something to look forward too, the gathering of family and friends, exchanging tokens of affection, the excitement of opening presents.....The preparation of sweets things and the Christmas Lunch!!!
Now its only a memory! Did it really happen! Or is it a sweet memory, of great times that hopefully our children and grandchildren will remember as I do with found memories.
Of the laughter that I can still hear of all those past Christmas of family getting together and feeling that we belonged, that we were loved....I do try to keep that tradition alive, December is a month of nostalgia for me.
That's when I start baking and my house has the warmest feeling,
of my childhood, the scent of spices fills the whole house, and it takes me right back to my childhood, of my lovely Mum and my wonderful Dad the house was brimming with love and music.
Oh sweet memories........

Walking the Essex way at Christmas

7 days to Cristmas and am nearly there! Hubby done the decking, now his laying the floor in the new build, it is hard going but he just keeps going like a good trouper, he will not stop until its all done.

Boris kept saying get Brexit done! LOL!!! With Hubby its get the new build done hahaha. Am just here making the tea and making my not so welcome coments :-(
Really looking forward for when its all done, it has been a big mountain to climb!

Hubby does not do well with all of this, he likes everything done yesterday! Manhana is not in his vocabulary it's not a word that he likes, LOL!!! sometimes I ask him why the hurry? Things will get done just the same! But he just rushes through like a bull in a china shop he wants it done and get it over with.

Today he'll be  fitting the floor in the new seating room I'll be making the tea and keeping my thoughts to myself!  I think I'll make a few more cookies it'll keep me busy and out of his way.

This morning am just waiting for daylight for my walk with my friend Paula I need the fresh air in my lungs even the muddy fields does not deter us enjoying the countryside, walking through the seasons we can appreciate what we have right by our doorstep!

Sometimes we are lucky to get a glimpse of a deer or hare and even manage to take a photo other times they take off as soon we lift our cameras! I just love nature even when our feet gets so clogged up and heavy the mud..

Walking the Essex way

Wet! wet! Walking? Don't think so!

Don't fancy getting my feet wet! Got holes in me boots again LOL.

I bought a pair of hiking boots at a mountain shop in Freeport a couple of years ago, paid 89 pounds I thought it was a bit pricey and since it was leather or so I thought, it was worth the money and even though i kept it waxed and polished it did not help within a year it started peeling and eventually water started seeping in, so now I find that I need to buy myself another pair of walking boots.

Well for sure I won't be going to the same shop.
Oh well wellington boots will be for the time being anyway.

Walking the Essex way. Christmas memories

Good morning World!
Hope this day will be full of happiness to you all.
We are going towards Christmas and it means lots of preparation for the one day of the year when we gather together with the family, exchange tokens, eat and be merry!!!
I have started my baking and it already smells like Christmas, I hate the shopping side the crowds! But I do love being in the kitchen measuring and making all the goodies that my family and friends love, it takes me back to the Island and the old Homestead!
Building the Christmas Grotto and the scent of spices permeating through the house, us children seating at the kitchen table rolling little balls of dough.
And before you know it! Christmas day has arrived, all the excitement and of course hopping that Father Christmas has found our house....
Then breakfast is served! Bread rolls with ham and cheese hot chocolate too! Papa used to cut oranges in segments from our own trees and offered to each one of us it was so special that I like to keep the tradition going in memory of Papa.
And then lunch! Marinated leg of pork in red wine, bayleaf and garlic. Then cooked on a bed of onion and tomato. Once again I can smell the aromas coming from the kitchen! Yes that's just how my house smells on Christmas day.
I like to keep the tradition going.
I hope I have not bored you all my friends with my nostalgic memories.

Walking the Essex way

OMG! What a night feeling absolutely waked! I have climbed a mountain
I have walked for miles first I was back in the Homeland my Island where I grew up, walking to the highest peek! Confused? Yes me too!

I have done that walk in my twenties not sure if I could do it these day's!
Then I find myself back in my little corner of Essex way walking through the countryside, and what an amazing walk! The colors so vibrant Autumn my favorite season, the trees and hedges looking awesome.

Then find myself on the move again, am walking and its very cold all this snow! where am I?
Am shivering I cannot find my way out, am in a freezing tunnel I start panicking then I see a light I start walking but not getting any closer am so tired! Then I wake up! Thank goodness it was all a dream.......

My home at walking the Essex way

Sunday is family day.
My girls are coming for lunch, well I mean Jennifer her husband Ian and my little darling Jaylee.
Miacarla and her bow is away for the weekend. Must not forget my Sis she's here too.
I haven't been able to entertain of late, since we started this building lark it'll be nice when it's all finished of course the extra rooms will be lovely specially the bathroom but it has been very stressful the shower room took longer to sort out than the actual build.
But that light at the end of the tunnel is getting closer.
In the mean time hubby is working in the garden rebuilding the lean to and soon we'll be able to replace the garden furniture under cover. Then that only leaves the garden to be sorted but that'll have to wait until the spring.
So today's lunch is a well deserved distraction from all of the upheaval of the past couple months.
Hopefully my next post will all be finished fingers crossed!!!!

Walking the Essex way

Good morning I wish! It's raining so no walking for us today yes, I know it is winter when we get rain, frosts, snow and all that!
But please not yet we are still under construction and hubby still working outside trying to rebuild the patio, so lets hope that he finishes it before winter settles in good and proper.
I am hopping that this week will be the end of all the worry wondering if this week it all be finished and done with, its taking longer to finish the shower room than it did to have all the building done!
Fingers crossed that this week will see the end of the tunnel.
Have a good day.
some pics from yesterday's walk.

Walking the Essex way

Had a good nights sleeps but woken up with a fuzzy head, I think I have been grinding my teeth again! Yesterday paid a visit to my dentist for a check up and he asked me if I had been grinding my teeth?
I never thought that the reason I wake up some days with a fuzzy head and too early, could be due to all that work that I do during the night like clenching my jaw so hard that I am wearing my teeth out.
At least today I have woken up at a reasonable time six o’clock.
Yes much better now waiting for day light so that I can meet up with my friend for our usual walk pending on the weather of course!
Now that the winter has set in with the rain and the ice we tend to have fewer weekly walks there was a time when we walked in all weathers at times getting drenched we arrived back home so cold that my skin felt lumpy and frozen, but at the same time one felt so invigorating being out there as one with nature.

Walking the Essex way

Good morning my World looks like we are going to have a wet day!
Another walk that is not going to happen, yesterday after a week of not walking it was lovely to be out and about with my friend.
The leaf fall and colors, are breathtaking walking through the park with a tricolor of colors crunching under foot the sound of Autumn, the floating leaves as they fall to the ground laying a colorful carpet at our feet....
Walking through the woods kicking the leaves listening for that crunch as we walk and one must not forget the sunrise at the lake, lovely swans swimming and the sun reflecting in the water its all so magical specially at the early hours of the morning everything looks shining like someone overnight painted it all with a little magic.
Take care my friends
Have a lovely day

Walking the Essex way

Good morning my World! Another day another early awakening!
I wonder what the day will bring plumbing, I hope so!
Walking I don't think so!
Don't you just hate when things doesn't go the way you imagine it should.
Hubby has been away for a few days, thank goodness he'll be home soon and take over this build thingy I am truly drained.
My house is covered in dust, my once beautiful garden is looking a right disaster I could just cry!
I know that once it's all finished I'll have more spacious living, and am sure that my garden will survive, but it breaks my heart when I look out and see all my plant pots huddled in one corner waiting for it all to be finished and to be displayed once again to all it's glory! Oh I cannot wait to have my garden back.
Have a lovely day my friends I wish that mine will be a good one too.

Walking the Essex way

We are once again arriving at that time of the year! Yes I am talking about Christmas!!!! Time for shopping, decorating with lovely colors, kissing under the mistletoe  And the smell of baking, the house smelling of spices.
Another four weeks and I'll be starting my Christmas baking and going down memory lane once again, back to my homeland and my childhood remembering mama baking the cookies, cakes, the house smelling heavenly with the scent of exotic spices cinnamon ginger nutmeg and black treacle oh yes it was all so magical....
First Mama baked the cookies remember rolling then into little balls and placing them on trays ready to be baked, then there was the cakes Mama measuring the ingredients into a big basin no electric mixers like i use Mama did it all by hand.
Once again the smell of baking and you could smell it for miles, because every house in the neighborhood was doing the same, preparing for Christmas.......
Now its my turn and it gives me lots of pleasure to keep the tradition going i know that my girls, my little darling and their cousins love my cookies they remember when ((Vovo)) .ie Nana, used to make them! And it gives me great pleasure to send my little parcels of memories to my family.
Take care my family, friends. Love you all

Walking the Essex way

I Have lived in Silver for 30 years! We moved into on of the famous flat roof houses.
Silver end was built by metal window manufacturer Francis Crittall as a site for a factory and housing for his workers .
The workforce was from the surrounding area but also from Wales, Scotland, the Midland and the North. Many villagers had been unemployed or striking miners, he was a man with a vision!
The village was to be a total environment with its own water and power supplies, allotments and farms piggeries, dairy and slaughter house, a self sufficient village!
There was to a 26 department stores, village hall, hotel, a light engineering works for disabled war veterans, as well as full sports and social facilities. All residents were expected to live work and play in the village.
500 houses were built in five years, and to ensure their modernity and efficiency, these were award winning and were designed by different architects to avoid regimentation.
Francis Crittall employed men like Thomas Tait and by so doing the arrival of the Modern movement to Britain. The resulting avenues of white painted flat roofed houses for which it become the trademark of Silver End.

Walking the Essex way

Good morning
Yes i am awake and have been since 4am, I wonder what the day will bring more rain! I hope not
nothing worse when one has building works and never stops raining.
fortunately its indoor work now, that needs attention like the water works in the shower room and the porcelain fitted. Oh am really looking forward when all is done and the mess gone, having my garden back like it used to be.
Our builder Deghan has been fantastic and the build work has progressed really well, very lucky with the workmen too specially Steve lovely man!
Looking forward when its all done! Have not had my usual morning walks with my friend and i really need to be out there enjoying the countryside.
Had a meander through our local park on Sunday of course I had my camera with me.
